Are you frustrated with your current mental health status?
Do you suffer from anxiety, depression, or any other mental health concern?
If you do, you’re not alone. After all, the world we live in today has so many factors that can negatively affect your mental health.
Perhaps you’ve noticed this and that something just seems a little “off” about the way we’re currently living. And let me tell you, this hunch is absolutely correct.
Who am I?
But before I get into the details, let me introduce myself quickly first.
I’m Jack Cincotta, and my mission is to help as many people as I can to develop much more optimal levels of health, particularly mental health.
I have a Master of Science degree in Psychology and I’m also a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP).
I also have first-hand experience with my own mental health issues, which has allowed me to have even greater insight when working with clients.
The Mental Illness Epidemic
Chronic mental illness is plaguing our society today:
- Nearly 40 million American adults suffer from anxiety
- And around 20 million from depression.
- Moreover, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death overall and the 2nd leading cause of death for people aged 10 to 34.
Now, you might be wondering, “why is this happening?” or “why is it increasing so much?”
And while there are many factors, a significant factor is that we as a society are moving further and further away from our natural lifestyles.
Growing Further from Our Natural, Simple Ways
In our society today we are growing further and further away from our natural ways. We are also adding an overload of unnecessary complexities. And it is these things that are ultimately causing the skyrocketing rates of suboptimal mental health.
To give you some of the major examples, think about how the following factors predominate in modern society:
- Processed food
- Heightened stress levels
- Staying indoors all day
- Excessive technology usage, especially at night
- Lack of sleep
- Unfulfilling careers
These are just a few of the seemingly limitless number of factors that are causing significant harm to nearly everyone.
The Modern World and Mental Health
Unfortunately, nearly all mental health conditions are either exacerbated or even initiated by these very same lifestyle/environmental factors.
(This is not to dismiss biological or genetic factors, by the way, but rather to point out that the environment/lifestyle have much more of an influence on mental health than genetics or biology alone.)
When you don’t live like you’re meant to, suboptimal mental health will result; there’s really no way around it.
Thankfully, though, this insight highlights an easy solution to these problems:
Start living a more natural life!
Natural and Simple Elements will Always be Beneficial
So, if you’re struggling with mental health issues, the first thing you should focus on towards is to simply revert to the natural elements that existed before modern society took over.
This treatment typically involves removing many negative modern lifestyle factors and implementing more natural ones.
No, I’m not saying society is all bad. There are obviously many, many positives.
But the most basic and natural elements have always provided health benefits and will continue to do so.
This is why I stress them
Things like:
- Eating whole, unprocessed foods
- Getting outside into nature and exposed to the sun
- Enjoying real-life, face-to-face social connections
- Making sleep a priority
- Taking time to move more and get into an exercise routine.
I assure you that if you start to implement some (or all) of these things, your mental health will improve and you will start to feel better.
Beyond the Basics: An Individualized Approach
Yet, I know it can sometimes be confusing and a lot to deal with. Furthermore, moderate to severe cases of mental health often require more advanced and complex approaches.
I am by no means saying that everyone should be treated the same way. In fact, I believe just the opposite. An individual approach is paramount to you overcoming your mental health issues.
Thus, if you need help and/or are unsure of the specific things you need to do to overcome your current mental health problems, consider a health consultation to get you started on the right path.
